My husband and I spent two wonderful days at David and Francesco’s gorgeous property near Ostuni in September. It was not enough time for sure! They are very personable hosts, who know how to make their guests feel comfortable in the lovely accommodation they have created. Our room was impeccably clean and beautifully appointed. Who wouldn’t love the welcome bottle of rosé which greets you in the room? We enjoyed breakfasts with our hosts on their patio beside the pool. Breakfast was a real treat – including fruits grown on their property and home baked goodies. They provided excellent recommendations as to where to eat and what to see. We followed all their recommendations and were very pleased. We loved everything about our two days at Casa Della Scrittrice, but what made it so special for us was the amazing hospitailty of David and Francesco. We have travelled a lot and stayed at many bed and breakfasts but we have never had a warmer welcome. We will definitely be back!

David and Francesco were the most wonderful hosts imaginable – giving us brilliant recommendations, helping with directions and making reservations!! They had thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible…from a helpful Puglia travel guide, a cool bag, picnic rug and basket for day trips to lighting the candles outside our room to help steer us into bed at night after a fantastic meal in one of the sweet, romantic towns nearby. 

The location was perfect – super close to Ostuni but only a short drive to further afield towns (Cisternino, Carovigno, Martina Franca) all of which are definitely worth a visit. 

Couldn’t recommend this beautiful and stylish accommodation enough, would go back in a heartbeat and already miss our breakfast chats.

We stayed at Casa della Scrittrice at the beginning of September for 12 nights. It is set in fabulous countryside with views across the valley and you can sit on your terrace and just relax surrounded by sunshine, peace and tranquility. We stayed in the studio apartment which is well equipped with a good sized room with sitting area, small kitchen and bathroom with its own terrace. David and Francesco were great hosts and over breakfast gave us good information on trips out and places to eat. Breakfast was a lovely fresh continental breakfast including some delicious homemade cakes and pastries. We would thoroughly recommend this to any visitors whether staying a few nights or a little longer.’

Casa della Scrittrice offered us a trullo experience that we will be talking about for a long time. Even before we arrived, David and Fran made us feel welcome with tips for travel and sightseeing.  Their hospitality continued, always attentive to what would make our stay special, including dinner when we arrived since it was late and we were travelling for many hours. This place is a bucolic gem tucked among stone walls as many of the trulli are and a perfect home base for visiting the Pulgia sights which you will learn about from your hosts. David and Fran have mixed chic with the vernacular for eye catching surroundings inside and out along with all the comforts like an electric blanket to take the chill off the air (if you arrive in cool, rainy weather like we did), loads of fluffy towels and heaters (again, much appreciated since April was cool). A raging thunderstorm woke us the first night but the protection and coziness of the trullo put us right back to sleep. We purposely kept the handsome curtains Fran sewed partly drawn, so we awoke to blue sky and sun beaming through the patio doors, a healthy breakfast sweetened with David’s homemade jellies, juice squeezed from the oranges grown by Fran’s Mom and many cups of fresh, strong coffee. David and Fran made suggestions and reservations for our meals and on our last night, along with their friends who are now their neighbors, all headed to one of their special places which had the best antipasti and limoncello we have ever tasted. We can’t say enough about the hospitality which continued till the moment we departed with a trip to the market and pasticceria in Ostuni, and more travel tips for Pulgia and Fran’s own Basilicata. We will be back, hopefully with the whole family so we have an excuse to spend time at “Trullo della Scrittrice”.

This is a gem of a place! Wonderful hosts, warm hospitality and a great location! If you’re looking for rustic, Italian living look no further. This place is just a stone’s throw from Ostuni and the perfect base to explore the heel of Italy. Breakfast on the terrace in the morning sunshine was a lovely peaceful way to start the day. David, Fran (the hosts) and their friendly dogs Jack and Toby, have found a little corner of rustic heaven which they are more than happy to share with those that stay. Highly recommended!

I was very pleased to stay with David and Francesco for a couple of days in November, 2013. They were delightful hosts, gracious and charming, and full of great advice about things to do in the towns around. Casa della Scritricce is beautifully set among the olive trees, and the house and terrazza make a perfect setting to enjoy the countryside. Highly recommended. I’ll be back, too.

Thank you David and Fran for an amazing stay in your wonderful secluded trulli.  The atmosphere was just a perfect blend of peace and fun. The trulli its self was a delight to stay in – we have never stayed in one before.
We loved the private door to the outside area so we could get up and go for a dip in the lovely pool first thing and then head off to explore, breakfast was also substanial and set us up for the day ahead … intime for lunch!
The location is indeed spot on – just outside of Ostuni (fab town) and only 40 mins drive from Brindisi.
What this meant to us is that the holiday started pretty much as soon as we stepped off the plane!
